The Job Switch: Journey of Pain to memes

So why this title, actually this occured to one of my close friends and yes I had some crazy experiences to pen down as well.

Let it start this way, I had spent good 4years in Accenture and I felt it’s a good time to switch to better growth opportunities. So, I started with some baby steps:

  • being a little more active on LinkedIn to see the amount of opportunities for my skillset in some organizations that I wanted to be interviewed
  • preparing a decent resume to get noticed over Naukri and other job portals
  • updating the resume on a daily basis as per the job description mentioned
  • Try to keep a note of the questions asked in all the interviews attended, it helps to enhance the knowledge and you will perform better in upcoming interviews

I was lucky enough to get the first opportunity through LinkedIn for a reputed organization within a week and got through all the rounds and managed to bag it with flying colors and the best part was they were quite comfortable with 3 months notice period as it is the same in their organisation as well, said the recruiter.

But what the fun part,

1st is the notice period:

apart from this organization, almost all want the candidate to join immediately or within a fortnight whereas these companies itself have 3 months notice period. Isn’t it the epitome of hypocrisy 🤔

2nd is the offer letter disbursement:

The amount of time they take to send the offer letter is averagely a month. So, let me ask a thing, it takes you almost 30 days to send an already drafted document template, and you expect us to accept it in 5–30 mins or else you will get N no. of calls from different people of the organization to expedite the process.

3 rd is sharing the offer Letter:

It is written or clearly stated in the offer letter to refrain from sharing it in any forms or else it will lead to legal jurisdiction. But still there are HRs who ask to share the offer letter on a compulsory note. They want the candidate to disclose all the offer letters they are holding at the moment and will ask all possible ways to share them over mail but will always ask not to share their organization offer letter to any other organization.

There was a time, when I questioned myself if I will be able to crack any of the interviews, and then there came a time when I had given interviews when I was simply resting post lunch.

Small steps shows significant results!!

There were mixed experiences, some were good, some were bad , alongwith a good amount of knowledge enhancement in my domain, a better way of presenting myself and some really good connections over LinkedIn.

But indeed this journey of job switch was kind of thrilling expedition….

from the pain and fear to laughter and Cheer!!
